20th Class Reunion

Dear Classmate from the Class of ‘90,

June 3rd, 1990 seems like a lifetime ago but some days it’s just like yesterday.  We have been out of Newman High School close to 20 years and much has probably happened in your life.  We’ve aged a little and have a lot more life experience to look back on.  Plans have been made to “Remember the Past, Hope for the Future, But Live for Today” at a reunion to be held July 16-18 in Mason City.

The small group that has been working on details has put together a list of events to take place. We are hopeful that you can make it and join in the fun.  Note we will continue to post things on the facebook (www.facebook.com) group Newman High School Class of ’90 (Mason City, IA).

The outline events will be:

July 16th Friday Evening:

•    6:30pm-? Informal Gathering for Cocktails  The Other Place 125  1st SE  Mason City

July 17th Saturday:
•    11am-3pm  Family Picnic/Snacks at Lester Milligan Park Shelter  Corner of S. Pierce & 15th SW
o    Please bring a picnic lunch for your family.  We will have grilling facilities and water available.
•    2-3pm Family Tour of the Newman Catholic Campus
•    6:30pm Classmates w/ Spouses/Significant Others: Cocktails/Dinner at Prime and Wine.
o    Contact Quentin Hemann for Details.

July  18th Sunday:
•    Mass at St. Joseph Church 10:15am.

Take care.

Updated Newman Class of 1980 30th Reunion Friday July 16-18th, 2010

Best Western in Clear Lake 641.357.5253,
•    A 30 room block is reserved until June 17th.  The cost is $79.00 plus tax. Make the Call to reserve ASAP to get the discount rate for the ‘Class of 80’!
•    Too late for the special price but I bet they would still take your $$.

Friday Evening, July 16th @ 7 PM
•    Carol & Marty Ramaekers have graciously invited us to their home.  They will provide pop, water & beer.
•    Locals: it would be appreciated if you could bring an appetizer or goodie to share
•    Informal gathering, lawn games available
•    Address: East Brooke division, 49 North Yorktown Pike, Mason City
•    Dress is very, very casual

Saturday Morning, July 17th
•    Oak Hills Par 3 golf course - they do not take tee times.  They do not have anything else scheduled for that day. Address: 518 27th Ave. South  Clear Lake  Phone: 641-357-2216
•    Plan an 8 AM Tee time! Prize for top and bottom scores! Bring supporting evidence.

•    If you are not a golfer then consider one of these options:

•    Central Gardens of North Iowa located @ 800 2nd Ave North, (near downtown Clear Lake). This intergenerational garden is on 2.75 acres with 22 themed gardens that everyone will enjoy and admire. Check out the website too: www.central-gardens.org
•    Tour Newman High School @ 10 AM with your hostess Carol Grimmond Ramaeker’s. A lot has changed in the last 30 years: a new daycare center, elementary, and middle school all at the "High School" location, as well as upgrades to the baseball and softball complex, and of course the beautiful football field!
•    Biking around Clear Lake? There aren’t any bike rentals in a 60 mile radius according to Bennet’s Bikes so you may have to bring your own if this is your thing.
•    Fort Custer Maze is located at the east end of Main Street; Kids and Adults will be ‘amazed’.
•    There is a miniature golf course on South Shore Drive near State Park.

Saturday Afternoon, July 17th
•    Noonish: Purchase lunch at one of the Clear lake local restaurants. Let’s get it ‘to go’ and meet in the park to share a meal. Kids are welcome! See next page for local options.
•    The Lady of the Lake has a public cruise at 1:30 pm-3:30 pm.  The cost is $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for children 12 y/o and under, no charge for children 2 & under.  They sell chips, candy, pop, water and beer.  If people do not have time for lunch prior to the cruise, they will allow us to bring sandwiches etc, but no beverages.
•    Informal, time for connecting and relaxing
•    We were working on some local entertainment; sorry, no bands are allowed on the boat so we will have to enjoy music from our CD player!

Saturday Night Live @ the Clear Lake Best Western @ 7PM Sharp

•    *We have the Veranda Room, near the pool for the evening.  There will be a cash bar.  If people want to go to Bennigan’s for dinner, you can bring it back to the party room.
•    *Our official gathering night to enjoy together with some fun activities.
•    Bring your spouse or significant other but leave the kids home so you can be fully present!
•    Brush up on your 1979 and 1980 trivia!
•    Music per CD’s unless one of you plays an instrument and sings; feel free to bring! Someone has to have some talent in this area, don’t we?
•    Bring any memorabilia that you may able to dig up to display; Flash backs may be common!
•    Memorial to those class mates who have passed
•    Dress is casual

Sunday Morning, July 18th
•    Mass at St. Patrick’s @ 8Am and 10 AM located at 1001 9th Ave South, Clear Lake. A special blessing at each of the local Catholic churches for the ‘Class of 80’ was requested.
•    Local church services in Mason City and Clear Lake; Check yellow pages or the cyber highway
•    Possible another tour of Newman if you missed the Sat. morning opportunity. You may have to beg Carol Grimmond Ramaekers! No promises.
